How to read a carbon credit serial no.

When you purchase carbon credits from a CarbonFix certified project, you can verify in our registry that this carbon credit was really retired. Just go to Retired credits and double-check if the serial number of you carbon credit has been registered.

The "A" and "P" at the end of a serial number indicate you if the CO2 of your credit is already fixed by the trees of the project or will still be fixed in future. When you have just purchased a carbon credit it normally is an "A". "A" stands for "ex-ante", whereby "P" stands for "ex-post". So, as soon as a certification has confirmed that the CO2 of your credit has been absorbed by the trees, the last letter of your serial number will turn from an "A" into a "P".

In both cases, the "delivery period" of a serial number indicates when the CO2 was or will be fixed. In general, this "delivery period" is also called the "vintage year" of a credit.
